1919 World series Scandal
By: Colton Hays
• Chicago vs. Cincinnati
o To very great teams playing for the 1919 World Series in a nine game series.
o Was there a conspiracy that the game had been thrown by the White Sox?
o Who were the main people accused of throwing the game?
o Were any of the world series games played to their full potential?
o That the white sox were paid to throw the world series.
o Two members of a secret people team paid four members of the White Sox 100,000$ each to blow the nine game World Series.
o But why did they want to blow the game?
o For the money but why they would of had the fame.
• Chicago White Sox
o Five all time baseball winners.
o Team that had the highest stats for hitting percentage that year.
o The Chicago White Sox were 88-52 in the 1919 baseball season regular year.
• Cincinnati Reds
o Many baseball award winners.
o Second highest hitting percentage behind the rivals the White Sox.
o The Cincinnati Reds went 96-44 in the 1919 basball season regular year.
Baseball is americas past time they love the games and mostly the World series. In North America, professional Major League Baseball teams are divided into the National League (NL) and American League (AL). Each league has three divisions: East, West, and Central. Every year, the champion of Major League Baseball is determined by playoffs turning into the world Series. Four teams make the playoffs from each league: the three regular season division winners, plus one wild card team. The wild card is the team with the best record among the non–division winners in the league. In the National League, the pitcher is required to bat, per the traditional rules. In the American League, there is a tenth player, a designated hitter, who bats for the pitcher which is called a pinch hitter.
Baseball is major profitable the players demanded more money to play the longer seasons. and that led to contravesies and the throwings of games. one of the biggest scandels was the 1919 World Series between the Chicago white Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. it was a nine game series and their were five people on the Chicagos team that were involved because they wanted more money and these poeple could pay them.
Although the Chicago White Sox were better and would have won the nine game series they were paid to blow it.
To add further suspicion, the Black Sox decided to make a reasonable effort and rebounded in the following two games with 5-4 and 4-1 victories. Cincinnati "dominated" the final outing "with a little help" from their crooked rivals in a 10-5 stomp that started with four runs in the first inning. The Reds had won their first World Championship in their first Fall Classic appearance.
and in my opinion,
Regardless of the verdict of juries, no player that throws a ball game, no player that entertains proposals or promises to throw a game, no player that sits in a conference with a bunch of crooked players and gamblers where the ways and means of throwing games are discussed, and does not promptly tell his club about it, will ever play professional baseball.
